Benefits of BSF for Sunderland
‘Raising standards and improving access and participation in learning’. Our
schools are committed, through local area partnerships, to take proactive
responsibility for all pupils in their local area
and tailor the curriculum to their needs. We are creating collaborative
Centres of Excellence, with facilities to extend and tailor the
specialist and vocational curriculum to maximise outcomes for our
students.
Building Schools for the Future will enable the city to accelerate
its transformation plans for secondary education and reach output
targets sooner than indicated in existing plans.
Most secondary schools in the city have specialist status
and Children's Services, in collaboration with Excellence in Cities partnership,
is committed to all schools achieving specialist status by 2006.
All specialist schools will act as centre of excellence hubs in
their specialist area and work to fulfil our declared aims of raising
standards and promoting inclusion and motivation to learn.
BSF will provide the additional resources not currently available
to enable us to accelerate the transformation of secondary education
in Sunderland.
‘Virtually every family and community in England will be
touched by a dramatic secondary school renewal’.
