WHAT IS BSF ?

Building Schools for the Future (BSF) is a new, strategic approach to capital investment in schools, heralding a major transformation in secondary school education nationwide.

Through BSF, it is envisaged that all secondary aged children and young people will have access to 21st Century standard facilities, with all secondary schools either renewed or replaced within the next 15 years.

In Sunderland, our aim is that educational transformation will be achieved through BSF in a number of ways... including the provision of state of the art learning environments across the city, and the creation of new ways of partnership working to deliver excellence for all our children and young people.

Sunderland is at the forefront of BSF. Together with thirteen other local authorities up and down the country, Sunderland was part of Wave 1 of the programme, benefiting from a substantial share of the Government's first year of BSF funds (over £2 billion of investment nationally, in its first year).

You will find more information - including the schools which will be involved in the first phase of our BSF plans - on other pages of this website.
