Down with school!

June 2008:

Hylton Red House students took advantage of their once in a lifetime chance to demolish their old school, marking the start of the construction of their new academy.

Keeping stakeholders informed

April/May 2008:

To keep stakeholders fully up to date on BSF progress, a programme of events is being held across the city. Events in April and May have included exhibitions in the city library and information sharing events for staff, governors, parents, residents, elected members and many others.

Stakeholder events were held at Pennywell School on Wednesday, 23 April and Washington School on Monday, 28 April.

Sunderland's first academy announces name

May 2008: The first of three Sunderland Model academies to open has announced its name.

Academy 360 will officially open this September, merging Pennywell School and Quarry View Primary School to create an academy catering for children aged four to 16.

Changing the climate

 

March 2008: Sunderland pupils have been at the centre of the plans for their new BSF schools.

Sustainability has featured prominently in many of the students' projects which have supported their involvement.

Hylton Red House pupils went one step further... and entered the Climate Dome.

March 2008: The building blocks are in place for Sunderland’s Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme following financial close.

Sunderland City Council, ICT provider RM and Balfour Beatty Construction have signed contracts worth a combined £74 million.
